This one was tough. Made of edge grain Purple Heart and Maple with a complex alternating border, the board itself proved not so difficult until it came to the border. I wanted to create an alternating Purple Heart and Maple border, which alone took me 3 man hours. to create the border I simply took squares of Purple Heart and Maple and glued them together in one 24" long row. First mistake was cutting them too big, instead of being 2x2 I went 4x4, then after an hour on the drum sander on too high a grit I walked away. cut the strips - re sanded cut the strips again and glued on the side border while cross cutting the two ends and flipping them.
Alas I thought I had it, this one was one of my favourites.
measure 17x10.5x1.5
Tragically in trying to size the border the board was too close to the blade and the corner chipped off - hence why I called it the "I almost cried board" nonetheless this hefty cutting board is destined for years of hard work and a lifetime of beauty.
includes care instructions.
please note that it is best if the Board is placed out of direct sunlight as Purple Heart can brown with age. I have applied 3 coats of Milk Paint cutting board oil as well as a wax top.
